Electric power is important for the economy because all businesses require electricity to operate. The electricity demand in Sulu will increase as all sectors begin to develop. Hence, it will also require significant investment retransmission lines, substations, meters, and other equipment and services that bring electricity into homes and businesses.

Small islands usually derives most of their electricity from these low diesel engines, which can work well as intermittent wind and solar power. Being in the tropics and experiencing a trade wind, small island has exceptional renewable resources.

The province has the potential to rapidly transition the energy systems to renewable energy. Thus, the opportunity to advance into this green movement.
